As always, I ended up dining at Barbecue Kitchen down the street for dinner with MAC Carson, who can't go to the banquet because of sensory input overload. To him, there's too much noise to engage in any sort of conversation and he is of the opinion the food isn't the absolute best. It also means I get to miss Play it With Moxie as usual, and from what I've been hearing, they just keep getting better and better. *sigh*
After getting back, it was time for Larry Niven's set. He read a story he wrote based on Meg Davis's "Captain Jack and the Mermaid" which took the song in a totally strange direction. He told stories; he answered questions. It was extremely entertaining.
Then came the Interfilk auction. Since
hms42 wasn't here this year, there were no CDs of the concerts put into the auction, so a nice sized source of income for the charity wasn't here this year. However, our Guest of Honor, Sam Baardman, brought some photographs he had taken. They were beautiful. Margaret Middleton offered up quite a few issues of APA-FILK for auction. I would have loved to win that auction, but bugged out at $300.00. Granted, I could afford it, but someone could afford it
more.
We had a new group of wenches, including Joseph Campbell, the person in charge of the con suite at
Dragon*Con. Unfortunately or fortunately, he turned the concept of Interfilk wenching inside out, backwards and on its side. He'd go try and tempt the person who just did the high bid. He went so nuts that he caused
bedlamhouse to be unable at times to continue acting as the auctioneer, bending over in raucous laughter or, well, you get the idea. There were several items I bid upon, like a not-released-in-the-United-States CD of the late Stan Rogers, whose music is a major part of filkdom. I do a couple of his songs as part of my repertoire, but I can't hold a candle to someone like Decadent Dave Clement (who's Canadian and has such a
SMOOTH voice. That said, I still enjoy doing his stuff. I'm probably going to have to check at Fogarty's Cove to see if it's available. I didn't win a single item. I'll check in the morning. Maybe I'll bid again on that neat looking guitar stand.
After the debacle of only 3 hours of sleep Friday night/Saturday morning, I decided to get a cup of tea and head up to my room at the hotel. I was in bed and asleep by midnight and got 6 hours of sleep, which I
SORELY needed.
