Well, it appears the old motherboard decided to give up the ghost after 2 years, and after spending over $800 in new components and waiting well over a week, the computer is back up and running. However, it took something like 6 hours last night to get the machine to the point where it would make sound, where it would talk to USB devices, things like that. I've still not put WordPerfect back in yet (I'm using WP12 at home), and I am waiting to hear about reinstalling oovoo once I hear back from my friend in Hong Kong. I've also reinstalled skype, gizmo, messenger, iTunes, QuickTime, Java, spyware blaster, adaware, spybot, abode reader. I still have to go out and get an adapter so that I can connect my laser jet 4 to the computer via USB port since the motherboard did not have a printer port on it. For the technogeeks, I've got an Interl DG35EC motherboard with a 3.0 dual core processor on it (which, I'm told, can be replaced by a quad core processor when I'm ready to do that in a few years), 2gb of some very high-end RAM, an ATI Radeon video card with 1gb of memory on the card (I'm using it with my widescreen Samsung monitor in digital mode) plus, for right now, the mfc Brother printer and my webcam and wireless keyboard & mouse.
