Yom Kippur 5772

Allow me to link to my post from last year so you get an idea of what I'm talking about: here. Well, the situation was the same this year. There were more people at services on Rosh Hashanah and even Yom Kippur this morning (I'm now guessing it's because of Yizkor, the memorial service) than there were for Mincha and Ne'ilah tonight, which is when the Book of Life and the Gates of Heaven are sealed for the year.

I talked to the mother of the boy who's Jewish date of birth is Yom Kippur (because I saw that his birthday cake this year - YUMMY! said "14" on it) what they did for the boy's Bar Mitzvah, because it would have happened last year. It turns out they scheduled his Bar Mitzvah for 2 weeks post Yom Kippur, which meant it fell on, if not close to, Simchas Torah, which would make for quite the party atmosphere for a Bar Mitzvah.

I also talked to the beadle of the congregation and found out the reason the new building has not even begun to be built (there's a cement slab laid for the foundation and that's it) is "it's the economy, stupid." I'm sad to hear that.

Oh, and the weather was in the 60's (or maybe the low 70's), which is the first time I can remember where it wasn't hot as anything.

So, how'd it go for you?

To all my Jewish friends, acquaintances and followers:

May the New Year be a good and sweet one for you. May you be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life for a good and sweet year. May the weather for your services not be oppressive. May your fast on Yom Kippur be easy and fast. And may the New Year bring us a year of peace.
